Top 5 WWE rumours of the week and analysis: December 28, 2014

If you thought that the Holiday season was going to cool down the flow of rumors in professional wrestling business, think again. The past seven days was filled with a lot of speculations just like any other week and a lot of it had to do about 2015.Royal Rumble and WrestleMania dominated the headlines from the lot while there were a lot of discussions about who WWE is looking to put over next year. Some of the rumors might sound a bit ridiculous, but that is the beauty of such things. So here is a look at the top rumors from this week and their potential impact on the current WWE landscape which is messed up big time.

#5 Roman Reigns slated for a Title reign that will beat CM Punks record

CM Punk’s WWE Championship reign in 2011 was quite arguably ‘the’ best in the modern era. He broke a plethora of records during that run, but Punk walking out of the company to join UFC has made WWE think about scratching off that record.

And how do they do it? Just let another superstar have a longer run. It might sound easy on the paper but letting someone as champion for nearly two years is not going to be a cakewalk for the writers.

An obvious question that would arise from this situation will be about whom that chosen ‘one’ would be. Reigns tops the list as things stand now but considering his ability, it might not go down as a great idea.

#4 Adrian Neville going to be Mighty Mouse

Superstars having a great run in the developmental territory and botching when they come to the main roster is nothing new. Adam Rose and Paige has been the most notable causality of the same while Adrian Neville looks set to join that list.

The former NXT champion has been one of the backbones of NXT programming over the past year and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him in the main roster by 2015.

However, it’s the gimmick that WWE plans for him which will make everyone cringe. Vince McMahon and his writers are apparently going to make Neville play a mighty mouse gimmick. If this materializes, the NXT superstars would wish for never getting promoted to the main roster.

#3 WWE wants Batista to come back for a farewell match

Batista came into WWE this year and walked out as one of the most hated superstars. He was clearly mismanaged by the company during that run while the rustiness didn’t do any good for the Animal.

He later went on to have a big break in the Hollywood scene which somewhat dimmed the chances of Batista making another return into the squared circle. Batista’s star power has gone up thanks to the new James Bond casting and Vince would love to see him back.

The boss is also making a lot of efforts to make this happen as he wants Batista to have a farewell match soon. As far as his opponent is concerned, Triple H is the name that comes into discussion which leads us to the next big rumor.

#2 Triple H and Vince McMahon argument about WrestleMania 31

Comparisons between Triple H and Vince McMahon have been going around the Internet ever since NXT started making waves with their solid shows. NXT being under the full control of Hunter has drawn plaudits in his direction and a majority wants him to take over Vince at WWE.

As far as that is not happening, there is going to be a power struggle between Hunter and Vince and the latest chapter of this seems to be WrestleMania 31.

Vince wants Undertaker to work with Sting at the pay-per-view while Triple H believes that a Triple H – Sting showdown would provide much better draw. A final decision is yet to be made on the situation and we could only confirm what we’ll get once the Road to WrestleMania gets going.

#1 Dolph Ziggler being discussed as a Royal Rumble winner

WWE was planning to make Reigns win the Royal Rumble and get him over Brock Lesnar at Wrestlemania but that idea is apparently being reconsidered after the reaction Reigns is getting.

The WWE Universe has slowed down a bit when it comes to cheering Reigns and WWE is looking for alternatives for winning the Rumble. A handful of names have been discussed in the backstage and the one that tops the list is Dolph Ziggler.

Ziggler had a great year in terms of in-ring action and his push took a big boost after Survivor Series as well. The Show off certainly deserves to headline WrestleMania for all the work he has been putting in and a Lesnar – Ziggler match is sure to be a crowd puller.
