Nadal again figures in the list, and it was his favourite clay surface on which he reigned supreme. This was the first time since winning his first French Open title in 2005 that Nadal had not won the title for two consecutive years (2015 and 2016) and he was keen to make amends. The legendary Spaniard was at his defiant best and destroyed opponents on his way to the title. In fact, Nadal lost just 35 games in the entire tournament (only Bjorn Borg has a better record.)

Nadal faced Stan Wawrinka in the summit clash, and pummeled him 6-2,6-3,6-1 to lift the Roland Garros crown for the 10th time. This was the third time that Nadal had won the French Open without dropping a set, the others coming in 2008 and 2010.
