The Croatian will look to make amends for last year’s final at the All England Club, where he lost in straight sets 6-3, 6-1, 6-4. Cilic failed to handle the pressure of the occasion as the match simply got away from him. The 29-year-old is a Grand Slam champion, however, and must not be underestimated. He produced an inspired performance against Federer in the semi-finals of the 2014 US Open and secured his first Grand Slam title against Kei Nishikori in the very next match.

This year, he caused the world no.1 some trouble in the Australian Open final, pushing Federer to five sets in a much-improved performance. Cilic’s game involves hitting opponents off the court from the baseline. Like the Argentine Del Potro, the Croat has a big serve, which is accurate and powerful. For a man who is 6ft 6in, Cilic moves rather well as demonstrated in Melbourne this year and against Federer, he hit some spectacular passing shots and volleys, showing he has the mobility and touch to go with the power.

Despite Cilic’s US Open victory, the world No.5 can have problems coping with pressure situations. At Wimbledon two years ago, the Croat stormed to a two-set lead and had match points. He squandered them as Federer progressed to the semi-finals, from two sets down. In this year's Australian Open final, the Croat had break points in the fifth set but failed to convert any of them, which led to Federer eventually winning the final set 6-1. Despite his past matches against Roger, Cilic is capable of beating him and has all the tools to do so.
