WTA ace Maria Sharapova was the latest to get an invitation to the altar by an admirer in the crowd during her 7-6, 6-0 victory over Cagla Buyukakcay in an exhibition game in Istanbul on Sunday (November 28).

The funny incident took place just as the Russian was getting ready to serve at 2-3 in the first set. As soon as the fan shouted to propose Sharapova, the crowd burst into laughter.

BNP Paribas Masters - Day Four

This was a time when Rafael Nadal was at his prime in the 2010 season, and the admiration for the Spaniard for certainly on the rise amongst tennis enthusiasts in this period.

It admiration for the tennis ace showed in a funny yet hilarious occurrence during Nadal's match against Lukas Lacko in the round of 32 of the Australian Open.

Nadal, a usually serious and dedicated character on court, tried to ignore the fan's perfectly-timed proposal at first. However, even the reticent Spaniard couldn't hide a smile after a few moments, and acknowledged the proposal with an albeit shy wave in the direction it came from.

It can definitely be counted as one of the most light-hearted moments from Nadal on the tennis court.

#3 Roger Federer

2016 Australian Open - Day 9

Roger Federer's fairy-tale comeback in 2017 saw him win two of the four Grand Slam of the season. Wimbledon was one of the prestige titles that he added to his achievements yet again this year.

In his first game of the tournament against Alexandr Dolgopolov, Federer added something else to the list as well: a proposal from a fan in the audience!

However, the fan chose the wrong moment to shout "Marry me, Roger!" The Swiss player was about to serve and the shout ended up disturbing his concentration, which led the umpire to send out a request of silence to the crowd gathered at the Centre Court.

#2 Novak Djokovic

Miami Open - Day 5

Probably the cutest of the lot, this proposal to Novak Djokovic from a kid and the Serbioan's reaction to it make up for a heartwarming video.

Always a showman for the crowd, Djokovic brought the youngster on the court and lent him his own racket to to let him hit hit some balls. This was during a practice session of the Serb though, which made it more possible for Djokovic to invite him right into the middle of the action.

This was during Djokovic's training at the Flushing Meadows before the US Open in 2012. You can watch the video here:

#1 Steffi Graf

Steffi Graf

This incident still remains as one of the funniest tennis moments of all time. It certainly qualifies as the best response to a fan's proposal by a top player.

Steffi Graf, arguably the best WTA player of all time, was just as good with verbal comebacks as she was with the racket during her prime. In her 1996 semi-final against Kimiko Date, an anonymous fan famously asked her to marry him as she was preparing to serve.

As expected, the entire stadium came alive and plunged into laughter. Even Date could not stop a smile from slipping out at the moment. However, what really pushed them into splits was Graf's response to the question.

She took her time to answer the question. Finally, a retort came. It became one of the most talked-about moments in the history of Wimbledon.

Her shout into the crowd was: "How much money do you have?"
