Berlin - The German Tennis Federation (DTB) introduced Carsten Arriens as their new Davis Cup captain ahead of the encounter against Argentina.

Arriens and his assistant Michael Kohlmann were named as the successors of former Davis Cup captain Patrick Kuehnen who resigned after the relegation play off win over Australia last month, Xinhua reports.

“We had many highly qualified candidates to chose from, ultimately we decided for Carsten Arriens who has been a successful coach with the German Tennis Federation for many years,” DTB president Karl?Georg Altenburg said in an official statement Friday.

The 43?year?old Arriens played as a professional from 1991 until 1999 to reach his highest world ranking No. 109 in 1993.

Since 2002 he had been working as coach for DTB.

Germany face Argentina in the first round of the World Group in February.
