Davis Cup was originated in 1990 as a competitive sport between the Great Britain and the U.S. It is the premier international team event in men's tennis. The women's equivalent of Davis Cup is Fed Cup. The 2019 Davis Cup is the 108th edition of the tournament which has incorporated a different format for this edition.
By 2016 the competitive sport between the two nations (U.S and Australia) spread across 135 nations with Australia and U.S being the leading nations to win the most titles for Davis Cup. U.S has won around 32 tournaments and has finished 29 times as runner ups. While on the other hand Australia has won around 28 times while finishing as runner ups around 19 times.
The main modification for the 108th edition is the World group taking place at one location and in one week. Earlier the Davis Cup results were made out of best of 5 series, which will be replaced by two singles matches and one doubles match, making the new format a best-of-3 instead of best-of-5. The world group will take place as one single tournament, which is named as 2019 Davis Cup Finals. The groups belonging to the lower zone groups I and II will have single ties which will decide promotion or relegation.
The Tournament is being held in Caja Magica , which is located in Madrid, Spain.
The tournament started from 18th November 2019 and will last till 24th of November 2019.
