Borna Coric aka Baby Djokovic is living up to his reputation
Grigor Dimitrov has been dubbed as “ Baby Federer” by many since the age of 16. Dimitrov’s style of play is much like the Swiss 17 time Grand Slam Champion. He is an upcoming star and is definitely one to look out for in the future.
After “ Baby Federer”, it looks like we have a “ Baby Djokovic” as well. Borna Coric, the 17-year-old Croatian teen sensation has been dubbed as Baby Djokovic because of his similarities with world number one Novak Djokovic. Coric recorded the best result of his career when he defeated Rafael Nadal 6-2, 7-6 (4) in the quarter-finals of the Basel Open. He now goes on to face David Goffin, another promising youngster from Belgium.
At just 17 years of age, Coric broke into the top 100 after defeating Nadal. Richard Gasquet and Nadal were the 2 players who achieved this feat 10 years ago.
Coric won his first major title in the form of the U.S Open Juniors title in 2013. He has had a string of good results in 2014 at the senior level. In April, ?ori? defeated then No.21 Jerzy Janowicz on the first day of Davis Cup. In July, in the 1st round of the clay court event in Umag where he was playing with a wildcard, ?ori? scored another notable top-50 win, beating 7th seed No.46 Édouard Roger-Vasselin. He upset Lukas Rosol in the first round of the U.S Open,but lost out in the second round to Victor Estrella Burgos.
Will he be able to live up to the expectations of everybody around the world? We will wait and find out.
