Amanda Anisimova vs Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova prediction

Anisimova and Pavlyuchenkova's rivalry dates back to 2018 when they first met in the second round of the Indian Wells Open. The American thumped Pavlyuchenkova 6-4, 6-1 in that match by converting four break points.
The duo's latest duel at the ASB Classic in January this year turned out to be a more competitive affair, as the two players went back and forth. The first set opened with a break of Pavlyuchenkova's serve.
The two then exchanged breaks in the fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth games, allowing Pavlyuchenkova to return on serve. Anisimova, however, delivered another blow in the 11th game by converting a break point and then held her serve to claim the set.
The participants relied more on breaking each other's serve in the second set as well. Anisimova broke Pavlyuchenkova in the first game only to be broken back in the second, but she soon took a 4-1 lead with breaks in third and fifth games.
Pavlyuchenkova attempted a comeback by salvaging a break in the eighth game but it proved too little too late as the American finished the match at 7-5, 6-4.
Therefore, another close fight is expected of the two in the Round of 16 battle at the Mubadala Citi DC Open on Wednesday, July 31. However, with history in her favor combined with more court time in Washington DC, Anisimova is tipped to come good against Pavlyuchenkova.
Pick: Amanda Anisimova to win in three sets.
