VIDEO: Novak Djokovic plays tennis with son, Rohan Bopanna joins in

Stefan Djokovic has already expressed a keen interest in tennis

What’s The Story?

In Rome, playing at the Italian Open, Novak Djokovic is chasing his second title this year. Quite the family man, the World No. 2 made time out and brought along his two-year old son, Stefan to the dusty clay courts of Rome.

The little toddler clutching on to the tennis racquet also hit a few shots around the court. Rohan Boppana and his doubles partner Pablo Cuevas were also there to encourage tiny Stefan and teach him a trick or two with the bat, as Djokovic spurred his son on in absolute delight!

The Heart Of The Matter

The toddler, named for former World No. 1 Stefan Edberg, also got a fine bit of experiencew watching the watering process of the clay courts.

Djokovic, however, has not had the best time, having decided to sever ties with his entire team.

In Madrid, he announced the split with his team of coach Marian Vajda, trainer Phil Gritsch and physical therapist Miljan Amanovic. The Serbian ace might be lacking in professional support right now, but Stefan and Jelena and Marko, Djokovic’s brother are all up for giving him company.

The cute toddler, with a white cap on his head, looked quite the pro as he swung his racquet ( it was really BIG for the little one ) left and right and sent the balls rolling, some flying all over the court, cheered on by Indian ace Rohan Bopanna and his partner Pablo Cuevas, who are in the quarter-finals at the Italian Open.

In Case You Didn’t Know

Following the split, Novak is not in a rush to find out another big-named coach right away.

Meanwhile, however, the player has the full support of his family and friends. His brother Marko is keeping him company in Rome and Stefan, too scampers around his father. Jelena Djokovic, the wife of the tennis player, is also pregnant with their second child and is expecting later this year around September.

What’s Next

Novak, having had one of his worst years on-court ever since he turned World Number 2, has only won the Dubai Open right at the beginning of the year.

However, the stars are shining brightly for Djokovic again as he has progressed to the quarter finals of the BNL Rome Open, where he will be up against US Open champion Juan Martin del Potro next.

His other two friends on the court, India’s Rohan Bopanna and Pablo Cuevas who watched the little Stefan show off his skills with the racquet, have also qualified into the quarter finals of this tournament. They will be up against Nicolas Mahut and Pierre-HugHerbert in the quarters.

Sportskeeda’s Take

The two-year-old son of Novak and Jelena has received the right set of genes and phenotype-wise speaking, has started exhibiting his early talents with the racquet. That he has got some nice hand-eye coordination is very clear and more than ever, it’s a treat to watch the cute toddler send balls scattering all over the court! We hope that he too, will take up this sport and take forward the legacy that his father will leave behind, in the coming years!
