Tennis ace Roger Federer has been asked by Wimbledon officials to stop wearing his special Nike shoes, as reported by the Daily Mail.

ESPN.com has confirmed that the player, who won his first-round match against Victor Hanescu, was asked to retire his orange-soled Nikes after just 69 minutes of on-court use.

Wimbledon has always adhered to an all-white dress code policy, which loosely included the shoes worn by the players. While the players have always respected the stipulation, white shoes with spots of colour on them have often escaped the wrath of the All England Club.

But Federer has come under the radar after sporting white shoes which with orange soles, a gray ‘tick mark’ and a small gray “RF” logo.

The orange shoes, that match the colour of the swoosh on his shirt and his headband, are part of the custom-made range of Zoom Vapor shoes specially designed for Federer, who won seven of his last ten men’s singles titles at the All England Club.

The world’s largest shoe and apparel Company knew they were taking a risk with Federer’s shoes, which the media referred to as “making a bold style statement in London.”

The shoes, which were sold in limited edition on Monday for $140 on Nike.com, have already been sold out.
