French Open 2015: 5 matches to watch out for on Day 1

  1. Roger Federer Vs Alejandro Falla

World No. 2 Roger Federer is looking for his second Roland Garros title this year. He starts his campaign against Columbian Alejandro Falla. Fans would remember their match in the first round of Wimbledon when Falla failed to close out the match after leading two sets to love.

After an early exit in Madrid, Federer made it to the finals in Rome losing to Novak Djokovic in straight sets. Falla lost in the first round of Madrid Masters to Philipp Kohlschreiber and it will be an herculean task for the Columbian to even take a set off Federer today.

Federer has won all of their seven previous matches which included two second round encounters here in Paris. Expect Federer to win this in straight sets.

Time: Around 4 p.m IST.

  1. Kei Nishikori Vs Paul-Henri Mathieu

2014 US Open runner up Kei Nishikori is one of the favorites for the title in Roland Garros this year. The World No. 5 will face Frenchman Paul-Henri Mathieu in the first round. Nishikori suffered a shock upset in the first round of the tournament last year. The Japanese is looking like a complete player this year that saw him defend his Barcelona Open successfully last month. He lost to eventual champions in semifinals (Murray) at Madrid and quarterfinals (Djokovic) in Rome.

With a game that can trouble anyone,Nishikori will sail through to the second round without any hiccups. This is the third meeting between the two and their second on clay.

Nishikori won their last match in Monte Carlo in 2012.

Time: Around 5:30 p.m IST.
