Chris Evert's second husband Andy Mill once spoke about their divorce and said that no one could make someone else love them.

Evert and Mill married in 1988 and were together for nearly two decades until their divorce in 2006. The former World No.1 later married Australian golfer Greg Norman.

Mill spoke to the Daily Telegraph in 2009 and talked about his divorce from Evert, saying that Norman was his best friend at a time when he would have even taken a bullet for the golfer.

"Greg Norman at one time was my best friend and a year and a half ago, I would have taken a bullet for this guy. I didn't realize he was the one that was going to pull the trigger," the Alpine ski racer said.

Mill opined that one couldn't make somebody love them and that he had no choice but to move on in life.

"I wouldn't wish divorce on anyone but it happens and you can't make somebody love you - in the case of my ex-wife. You have to move on and so I'm moving on - it is a work in progress," Mill said.

Chris Evert paid a $7 million settlement to Mill, who said that he would have paid twice that amount to keep his family in place.

"Regarding the money and the settlement, I would have paid twice that to keep my family in place. My main concern is just trying to get everything on level ground as far as my family is concerned. The most important thing for me is my family and my kids, and just trying to keep them grounded. Chris understands that they (the boys) need me as much as they need her," Mill said.

Chris Evert and Andy Mill have remained friends, with the latter having accompanied her to her chemotherapy sessions when she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2022. Evert called Mill her greatest friend while penning an emotional message with regard to her treatment.
