Roberto Bautista Agut, who had a magnificent week, getting wins over the likes of Stan Wawrinka and Novak Djokovic, got the better of a resurgent Tomas Berdych in the final with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 scoreline.

The Spaniard probably had the best week of his career in terms of level of play and handling pressure against high-quality opposition, and he has now won a title in one of the first two weeks of the season for a fourth consecutive year.

Tomas Berdych, who played his first match on the tour this week since Queen’s last season, also had a brilliant week as he produced a similar level of tennis that saw him cement his place in the world’s top 10 over many years.

World no. 1 Novak Djokovic, who lost in an incredible semi-final against Bautista Agut after being a set and a break up, had a lot of work to do on court this week.

After beating Damir Dzumhur in straight sets in his opener, he battled hard in his next two matches against Marton Fucsovics and Nikoloz Basilashvili, as he came back to win against both of them after dropping the first set.

The Serbian also featured in doubles action this week along with his younger brother Marko Djokovic. The pair had never won a match together on the doubles court before this tournament (previously 0-5), but reached the semi-finals here, winning both their matches in 3 sets.

Djokovic spent a total of nearly 10 hours on court this week and that was probably the reason why he lost steam during the third set in his semi-final against Bautista Agut.

In doubles action, the pair of David Goffin and Pierre-Hugues Herbert, who last played in a doubles final together way back in their junior days, in the Banana Bowl of 2008, won the title, defeating the Dutch duo of Robin Haase and Matwe Middelkoop, 5-7, 6-4, 10-4.
