ATP rankings update: Novak Djokovic kicks off a record breaking 378th week as World No. 1, Rafael Nadal down to No. 8 | February 27, 2023

Novak Djokovic began his 378th week as the top-ranked player in this week's ATP rankings. He has finally eclipsed Steffi Graf's record of 377 weeks as the World No. 1. The Serb in all likelihood could've unlocked this achievement last year itself.

However, Djokovic was unable to participate in various tournaments due to the vaccine mandate in place. He's currently competing at the Dubai Tennis Championships and has a great shot at further extending his lead.

Meanwhile, Carlos Alcaraz fell just short of successfully defending his title at the Rio Open, losing to Cameron Norrie in the final on Sunday. The teenager remained steady at No. 2 in this week's rankings.

Stefanos Tsitsipas (No. 3) and Casper Ruud (No. 4) have also held on to their positions from the previous week. Taylor Fritz moved up by a couple of places to No. 5, a new career high for him. He's the first American man to be ranked in the region since Andy Roddick in 2009.

Andrey Rublev slipped down a place to No. 6, while Daniil Medvedev's title winning run at the Qatar Open pushed him to No. 7. Rafael Nadal's continued absence from the tour now threatens his lengthy stay in the top 10 of the ATP rankings.

The Spaniard fell by two spots to No. 8 this week. If he doesn't return to action at the Indian Wells Masters next month, or loses early if he competes there, he's likely to fall out of the top 10.

Felix Auger-Aliassime (No. 9) and Holger Rune (No. 10) round out this week's top 10. Hubert Hurkacz, who won the Open 13 Provence over the weekend, is also on the cusp of re-entering the top 10. Ranked at No. 11 this week, the Pole is just 96 points behind Rune at the moment.

Tallon Griekspoor and Bernabe Zapata Miralles soar to new career peaks in this week's ATP rankings

Tallon Griekspoor has improved upon his previous career high this week. The Dutch player moved up a spot to No. 39.

Elsewhere, Bernabe Zapata Miralles' semifinal finish at the Rio Open has helped him crack the top 50 of the ATP rankings. The Spaniard was one of the biggest movers of the week as he zoomed up 21 spots to No. 42.

A quarterfinal showing at the Open 13 Provence has also propelled Mikael Ymer up by 10 places to No. 59, unlocking a new career high for the Swede.

Jason Kubler (No. 71), Juan Pablo Varillas (No. 77), Nuno Borges (No. 85) and Emilio Gomez (No. 90) are the remaining players to better their previous career high rankings this week.
