On August 23, 1973, the inaugural singles rankings were released. Ranking points are given out according to the tournament's prominence and the stage attained by a player in that particular tournament. The four Grand Slam tournaments give out the most points. Every Monday, the rankings are updated, and points are removed 52 weeks after they are given out (except for the ATP Finals, where they are removed on the Monday after the final ATP Tour event of the subsequent year).
The world No. 1 in men's singles right now is Jannik Sinner. He recently won Wimbledon after beating Carlos Alcaraz in four sets. This was his first Wimbledon title and his fourth Grand Slam.
