Carlos Alcaraz and Tommy Paul showed true sportsmanship by sending heartfelt messages to Casper Ruud after his 2025 Madrid Open win. It is his first ATP Masters 1000 title and the 13th of his career.
Ruud had a dream run in the Spanish capital, making the most of the absence of big names like Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner. He began by beating Arthur Rinderknech, followed by wins over Sebastian Korda, Taylor Fritz, Daniil Medvedev, and Francisco Cerundolo to reach the final.
In the championship clash on Sunday, May 4, the Norwegian made history by becoming the first player from his country to win a Masters title, overcoming Jack Draper 7-5, 3-6, 6-4. He rallied from 3-5 down in the opening set and secured the win with a crucial break at 2-2 in the decider.
Two days later, Ruud took to Instagram to share snippets from his title-winning moment with the following caption:
“I've always dreamed of winning tournaments like this. It's been an incredible couple of weeks, and I'm so thankful to everyone who supports me. Huge congrats to @jackdraper on a phenomenal run!”
Alcaraz and Paul took a moment to congratulate their colleague, with the Spaniard writing:
“What an example! Great tournament! You deserve it so much! Enjoy it.”
The American wrote:
"Congratulations Casper. Happy for you! Hope you lost that cowboys hat though.”

Alcaraz couldn't take part in the Madrid Open this year due to injuries he picked up during the Barcelona Open final. However, he has now recovered and is set to return at the Italian Open.
Meanwhile, Paul got past João Fonseca and Karen Khachanov but fell short in the fourth round, losing to Jack Draper.
Casper Ruud gives heartfelt speech after Madrid Open title win

Casper Ruud couldn’t hold back his emotions after clinching the Madrid Open title, and his celebration right after match point said it all. In his heartfelt victory speech, he thanked his fiancée Maria Galligani, along with his friends and family, for standing by him through all the highs and lows.
Ruud said:
“I owe a lot of my success to all my closest ones. My family, my friends, my fiancée Maria. We got engaged last year, so she’s been an incredible support for me over many years now.”
"She came yesterday to come and support, and maybe that was the last little push I needed to get over the finish line. I’m really happy, and it’s great I’m surrounded by so many amazing people. I’m a really lucky guy,” he added.
The World No. 7 will now head to Rome for the Italian Open, where he is seeded sixth and has received a first-round bye.
