Carlos Alcaraz to wear personalized shoes for Indian Wells campaign with engraving of his grandfather's special motto

Carlos Alcaraz will wear personalized shoes, specially designed by his sponsor Nike, for the 2023 Indian Wells BNP Paribas Open.

The sportswear giant began its association with the world No. 2 in 2015 and inked their first professional contract with him for clothing and shoes in 2020. He donned the brand during all his title wins, including the 2022 US Open.

The blue and white shoes include a special connection to the Spaniard - his grandfather's motto of 'cabeza, corazón, and cojones', translated as 'head, heart and balls', will feature on one of the shoes.

Tennis journalist and writer Sebastian Torok took to social media to share a clip showcasing the newly designed shoes.

"Grandfather Carlos #Alcaraz taught his 4 male grandchildren to play chess. To @carlosalcaraz, specifically, he incorporated a philosophy of life to use in #tenis : "The three C's. Head, heart and balls." Now, the firm that dresses him designed sneakers to match," he wrote.

Carlos Alcaraz has previously spoken about the 'three C's' being his mantra and also got them tattooed on himself post his maiden Grand Slam win.

While one shoe in the pair has the motto in text, the other has three icons representing each word. The famous tagline of "Just do it" is also written with the letter 'i' replaced by the number '1' in reference to Alcaraz closing his 2022 season in the top spot of the ATP rankings.

Carlos Alcaraz is gearing up to compete at the 2023 Indian Wells. He pulled out of the Mexican Open in February due to injury but is now back in action in California.

On the tournament's media day, the Spaniard laid rest to concerns regarding his health and stated that he had been practicing and feels ready to compete.

"I'm [feeling] really good right now," he said. "Today was the first practice that I practised with some players, [played] some points. I feel great. I took some days off and it was really good for me. Right now I'm ready."

The World No. 2, who was a semifinalist at Indian Wells last year, stated that while playing a Masters 1000 tournament will be tough, he will give his best. He added that he will aim for a title win, with an eye on returning to the top rank.

"It's a really good goal for me," he said. "Of course playing a Masters 1000 is always tough and I really want to have a good result here. I love this tournament as well. For me, winning the tournament and being No. 1 again is a really good goal and I really want to go for it."

Top seed Carlos Alcaraz has received a first-round bye and is scheduled to play against Australian qualifier Thanasi Kokkinakis in the Round of 32 on Sunday, March 12.
