Carlos Alcaraz looked at the camera and winked following his men's doubles second-round win alongside Rafael Nadal at the 2024 Paris Olympics on Tuesday, July 30. However, Alcaraz's wink amused fans, who unsurprisingly poked fun at the Spaniard over what they considered to be a failed attempt at a wink.

Alcaraz and Nadal carried on in their second-round match against the Dutch duo of Tallon Griekspoor and former doubles World No. 1 Wesley Koolhof just how they left off at the end of their first-round win. The Spaniards, for the most part, dictated the play and clinched the first set 6-4.

However, Griekspoor and Koolhof improved in the second set, particularly on their service games, eventually taking it to a tiebreak, where they emerged superior [7-6(2)] thanks especially to Griekspoor's exemplary serving. A super tiebreak followed, but here, it was 'Nadalcaraz' who stormed to a 10-2 win, sealing the Spaniards' progress to the third round.

After the match, as the cameras closed in on Alcaraz's celebrations, the reigning French Open and Wimbledon champion winked. However, instead of closing one eye, he appeared to close both, leaving fans amused.

One set of fans suggested that Alcaraz is similar to Formula One star Charles Leclerc and pop legend Rihanna, comparing their inability to wink properly.

"He went to the Charles Leclerc school of inability to wink," a fan wrote.
"He cant wink just like Rihanna. None of my favs can wink," commented another fan.

Another set of fans blatantly poked fun at Alcaraz over his failed wink attempt.

"Oh sweetie let’s work on that wink for next time," another fan commented.
"Not him struggling to wink i’m crying. this is your f**kboy? this is your manw**re?" a fan hilariously asked.
"The failed wink i can’t take him seriously," another fan chimed in.

Alcaraz has limited experience in doubles, having focused primarily on singles since he entered into the ATP Tour. However, Nadal boasts of vast doubles experience, even though the former World No. 1's most glittering achievements have come in singles. The 22-time Major winner's doubles prowess came to the fore at the 2016 Olympics, where he won gold alongside Marc Lopez.

Following the Spaniards' win over Griekspoor and Koolhof, Alcaraz laid bare how Nadal kept instructing him whenever he made mistakes with his court placement.

"Sometimes when I didn't know where to go Rafa told me: "but where are you going? Go to your place!" Alcaraz told reporters.

Alcaraz and Nadal's next challenge would be to come out on top against Team USA's doubles specialists Austin Krajicek and Rajeev Ram. In men's singles, the World No. 3 is set to lock horns against Roman Safiullin. Both matches are scheduled to take place on Wednesday, July 31.
