Former World No. 9 Fabio Fognini recently shed light on some of the less talked about aspects of his personal life. The Italian spoke about the importance of trying even when one faces failure in the sport.

In an interview with Italian media outlet Ultimo Uomo, Fognini touched upon the importance of keeping the right mentality, as it will eventually lead to good results. The veteran further highlighted his own mentality; he doesn't give up easily, even on his bad days.

"I believe that if you keep the right mentality, however, sooner or later, the result comes. Those who know me know that I always try, indifferently in the single and in the double, even when I don't feel well with myself. Because when you go on the pitch, you don't always feel well."

The 35-year-old continued by talking about how even his best matches seem to be very few at the end of the year. He also highlighted the importance of not giving up.

"The good games, the days when you feel like the Federer of the situation, in a year, you can count them on the fingers of one hand. And for me it is a very, very important value, always trying, finding the best way to stay on the field even when you are not as you would like," Fognini said.

Being at the tail end of his career, Fabio Fognini says that he is "suffering from not winning games." The former French Open quarterfinalist emphasized his growing passion for winning games. Speaking about the same, Fognini said that not winning enough games makes him feel sick.

"Especially in this period, which is the final part of my career, I am suffering a lot from not winning games. It makes me sick. I want to win as much as possible, it's part of my job. Improve the ranking, earn money, find more self-esteem and conviction....it's a bit like at school, when you feel ready for a history, geography, or math task, and you want to do it in the best possible way," Fognini added.

Fognini recently lost in the round of 16 at the Estoril Open against Marco Cecchinato. The Italian won the Argentina Open doubles title in February.
