Dustin Brown has come forward to call out the faceless online trolls who have been sending him and his wife inappropriate messages and abuse. That said, Brown is not the first player to throw light on this issue.

In June last year, Sloane Stephens joined Vice President of the United States Kamala Harris at the White House to talk about online abuse and threats. Portugal's Joao Sousa and Frenchman Jonathan Eysseric have raised similar complaints this year.

A majority of the offenders are believed to be those who indulge in online betting. Such people reportedly create fake accounts to vent their frustrations with the players.

Brown recently took to social media to share a few derogatory messages that he and his wife Miriam had received. He stated that this wasn't something new and that he had proposed a solution to the ATP but no action was taken.

"It's Every Week… Winning/Losing Doesn't Even Matter Sometimes… I Proposed A Possible Solution 2 @ATPTour To Present 2 @Facebook, @Instagram, @Twitter Years Ago, BUT SADLY NO ONE „REALLY“ CARES… Nothing Changes… Absolute Joke We As Players Have 2 Deal With This #WeekInWeekOut," Brown tweeted.

The 38-year-old Jamaican appealed to social media platforms to make stringent rules for users in order to increase accountability and avoid fake accounts.

"And This Is What Also My Wife Has To Deal With Now… Its Time Things Change & Ppl Dont Get To Hide Behind Fake Accounts… Time For @instagram @facebook @Twitter To Hold People Accountable," Brown wrote.

Brown asked Twitter, Instagram and Facebook to follow in Uber's footsteps and crack down on the verification of users.

"Its Very Simple @atptour @twitter @instagram @facebook. If People Make An Account, Same As @uber For Example. Ask For A Credit Card For Verification, Charge A Cent Or Whatever. Then The Platforms Know Who The Person Is & They Can Be Held Accountable. Fake Account Or Not," he wrote.

Dustin Brown is well-known for his unique style of play filled with trick shots and incredible athleticism, which entertains tennis fans every time he is in action. The German-Jamaican star first captured global attention when he defeated Rafael Nadal in straight sets at the Halle Open in 2014.

The two players met once again at the 2015 Wimbledon Championships. Brown, who never won a singles title in his career, once again edged out the 22-time Grand Slam winner.

Nadal has famously lost both of his matches to the Jamaican player.

Brown has stayed away from singles recently, and has instead been concentrating on doubles over the last couple of years. On April 3, he broke into the Top-100 of the doubles rankings for the first time since February 2016, landing in the 94th position.
