Emma Raducanu recently shared a picture of herself enjoying a barbecue night in Texas after withdrawing from the 2023 ATX Open due to a tonsilitis diagnosis
Raducanu was scheduled to take the court at the first-ever ATX Open in Austin, Texas, alongside the likes of Danielle Collins, Sloane Stephens, and Peyton Stearns. This would have been her first match since her second-round defeat to American tennis prodigy Coco Gauff at the 2023 Australian Open.
The Briton shared a picture of herself outside Terry Black's Barbecue. She wrote that as she was recovering well from her illness, she was finally able to tick off eating Texas-style barbecue from her bucket list.
"Felt better so bucket list. TX BBQ," Raducanu wrote.
Raducanu had previously expressed her gratitude to the ATX Open tournament organizers for their hospitality and regretfully announced that she would be unable to compete due to a bout of tonsillitis. She expressed her disappointment at having to miss the tournament in a statement.
"I'm sorry to have to withdraw from the ATX Open," the 20-year-old said. "I am currently suffering from tonsillitis and am unable to compete this week. Thank you to the tournament for the great hospitality here in Austin."
Emma Raducanu received an outpouring of sympathy and support from her fans after the announcement of her illness, particularly since the ATX Open was to be her first tournament back on the WTA tour following her defeat in Australia.
Emma Raducanu receives wildcard for Miami Open 2023
Emma Raducanu has been granted a wildcard for the women's singles tournament at the 2023 Miami Open, marking her return to the American summer hard-court season.
In a video message to fans, she expressed enthusiasm for competing in the WTA 1000 event, saying she was eager to get back on the court and in the game.
"Hey guys, it's Emma here. I'm really looking forward to coming to Miami for the Miami 2023 Open and I look forward to seeing you there," the 20-year Brit said.
The former World No. 10 entered the Miami Open last season as the 11th seed and was granted a bye to the second round.
There, she encountered Katerina Siniakova and put up a valiant effort before ultimately succumbing to a 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 defeat. She has a 2-2 record so far this season and is currently 80th in the WTA rankings.
