What is the French Open?

The French Open is one of the four Grand Slam tournaments held annually across both the ATP and WTA tours. It is the second Major of the year and the only one contested on clay courts. The tournament dates back to 1891 for men and 1897 for women.

Originally restricted to members of French tennis clubs, it opened its doors to international competitors in 1925, evolving into the two-week global spectacle it is today. Rafael Nadal holds the record for the most titles here with 14. He is followed by Bjorn Borg with six titles. Mats Wilander, Ivan Lendl, Gustavo Kuerten, and Novak Djokovic each have three.

Venue

The French Open will take place at Stade Roland Garros in Paris, France. This iconic venue has hosted the tournament since 1928.

It features several major stadiums, including Court Philippe-Chatrier, the main court with a seating capacity of 15,000 and a retractable roof, Court Suzanne-Lenglen with 10,000 seats, and Court Simonne-Mathieu, a 5,000-seat stadium uniquely set within a botanical garden.
