Former World No. 1 Garbine Muguruza has announced that she will miss the clay and grass seasons of 2023.

The two-time Grand Slam winner has dropped each of her four matches this season and hasn't competed since the WTA 250 tournament in Lyon. It was held the week after the Australian Open, where her campaign was cut short by Elise Mertens in the first round. She later withdrew from Abu Dhabi, Doha and Dubai.

Muguruza recently took to her Instagram stories with an update on her whereabouts, saying that she will miss the clay and grass court season as she continues to spend "healthy" time with her family and friends, adding that she will keep her fans updated.

"Hey guys what's going on. Spending time with family and friends and it's really been healthy and amazing so I am going to lengthen this period till summer, therefore I am going to miss clay and grass season. Thanks for all the lovely messages and will be updating you guys," Muguruza wrote.

"In tennis, everything changes very quickly, this sport has no memory" - Garbine Muguruza

Garbine Muguruza spoke to The National earlier this year about her poor form, saying that despite all of the setbacks, she is hoping for a great comeback because tennis doesn't keep memories.

"In tennis everything changes very quickly, this sport has no memory. One week things can go very wrong for you and the next you can win a tournament. Keeping calm is essential, being humble enough to accept the situation and keep working hard," Muguruza said (via Eurosport).
"I am a tennis player who has gone through ups and downs in her career, I have experience and I must simplify things," she added.

The 29-year-old stated that she put too much pressure on herself last year and that she will not do so again this year, adding that she is "optimistic" that she will regain her form.

"Last year I put too much pressure on myself, but now the ranking is not paramount, although I know I need to win games to improve a little. In any case I try not to think about it, I think the best thing I can do is enjoy the time on the pitch and try to win titles," she said.
"I am optimistic, I know that as much as things have not been going well lately, everything can change when you least expect it and quickly," she added.
