Geneva Open 2023: Men's draw, schedule, players, prize money & more

Internazionali BNL D
Casper Ruud will be eager to win the Geneva Open for the third time on the trot

Main draw action from the 2023 Geneva Open will get underway on Monday, May 22.

Casper Ruud was the champion in Geneva in 2022. He successfully defended his title by beating Joao Sousa in the final. The Norwegian will be eager to win the title for the third time in a row but the likes of Taylor Fritz, Alexander Zverev, Grigor Dimitrov and Ben Shelton won't make it easy for him.

On that note, here is everything you need to know about the Geneva Open:

What is the Geneva Open?

The Geneva Open is a clay-court tournament that is a part of the ATP 250 series. Its inaugural edition took place in 1980 and was won by Balazs Taroczy. The Hungarian beat Adriano Panatta 6-3, 6-2 in the final.

Casper Ruud, Mats Wilander and Stan Wawrinka have each won the tournament twice. Other past champions include Bjorn Borg and Alexander Zverev.

Top seed Casper Ruud will look to become the first player to win a hat-trick of titles at the ATP 250 event and become the record champion at the tournament. The Norwegian had a poor start to the 2023 season but has been in pretty good form of late, as evidenced by his run at the ongoing Italian Open.

Being one of the top four seeds, Ruud has received a bye to the second round of the tournament and will face either Hugo Dellien or J.J. Wolf.

Second seed Taylor Fritz is also a serious title contender in Geneva. The American reached the semifinals in Monte-Carlo and will be eager to have a good run at the ATP 250 event ahead of the French Open. He will take on either Alexander Bublik or Marcos Giron in the second round.

2019 champion Alexander Zverev is seeded third at the tournament and will be determined to bounce back after Round of 16 exits in Madrid and Rome. The German will start against either Christopher Eubanks or Benoit Paire.

Other seeded players in Geneva include Grigor Dimitrov, Ben Shelton, Tallon Griekspoor, Bernabe Zapata Miralles and Adrian Mannarino.
