Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner are racing to recover in time for the 2024 French Open. Both have been plagued by injury woes during the clay swing and neither player has won a title on the surface in the lead-up to the claycourt Major.

Alcaraz has dealt with health issues throughout this season. He sustained an ankle injury at the Rio Open in February, which forced him to throw in the towel just minutes into his first-round match. The Spaniard bounced back with a successful title defense at Indian Wells, and then made the quarterfinals in Miami.

However, it hasn't been smooth sailing for him since then. He injured his forearm in the lead-up to the Monte-Carlo Masters, and ended up withdrawing from the tournament. He didn't defend his title in Barcelona either because of it.

The Spaniard did return to defend his crown in Madrid but bowed out in the quarterfinals. Unfortunately, it further aggravated his injury and he pulled out of the Italian Open after that.

Sinner was on a roll this year as he racked up one title after another. He won his maiden Major title at the Australian Open, along with titles in Rotterdam and Miami. A semifinal finish at the Monte-Carlo Masters ushered a positive start to his clay swing.

Sinner then sustained a hip injury during the Madrid Open and withdrew prior to his quarterfinal match. He couldn't participate in the Italian Open because of it as well. If fully fit, these two youngsters could have been the leading favorites to win the French Open. While their participation is up in the air, the two are on the mend, and could make their way to Paris in the coming days.

Carlos Alcaraz was recently seen training at his coach Juan Carlos Ferrero's academy, though he did have protective gear on his injured forearm. The reigning Wimbledon champion's coach recently posted a video of him training.

"These days @carlitosalcarazz is working hard 🔥on trying to recover in order to be ready for the upcoming tournaments! 🎾 Vamos Carlitos, tú puedes," Ferrero captioned the video.

Alcaraz's team has taken the utmost care of him so that he doesn't suffer any more setbacks. As per MARCA, he is expected to arrive in Paris for the French Open by May 22. As for Sinner, he was being treated at the J|Medical in Turin and was recently discharged.

The Italian's doctors have urged him to take it slow. Sinner himself stated that he will compete at the French Open only if he's fully fit during his Italian Open press conference.

"At Roland Garros I will only play if I am 100%, if there is half a doubt we will have to see," Sinner said.

Sinner's coach Darren Cahill has hinted that he will be there in Paris after all. The latter posted a picture on social media with a tennis racquet and balls with 'Roland Garros 2024' embellished on it.

"Terre Battue" - Cahill captioned the picture.

However, nothing is final until players take to the court. Players have withdrawn hours before their matches in the past, so one will have to wait and see if Alcaraz and Sinner do compete in Paris. The French Open draw will be revealed on Thursday, May 23, with the tournament set to begin on Sunday, May 26.
