"I was going through a hard time" - Bianca Andreescu on why she turned down Netflix's offer to feature in Break Point

Bianca Andreescu has revealed that she got an offer from Netflix to feature in the first season of the tennis documentary 'Break Point' but refused the deal owing to personal reasons.

The Netflix series was released on January 13 and featured five episodes that covered the first half of 2022 from the Australian Open to the French Open. The show deliberately chose to focus on rising stars and lesser-known players on the tour, including the World No. 37.

In a conversation on the Match Point Canada podcast, Andreescu divulged that personal hardships influenced her to reject the proposal from Netflix. She also did not like the idea of cameras following her around all the time.

"Yeah, so I actually got offer to be in first season but I turned it down because first of all, I was going through a hard time and I just really wanted to focus on my tennis. One thing was that I didn't want, kind of, cameras to be around me all the time," Andreescu conveyed.

In due course, she was surprised to learn from other players who featured on the show that the shoot was not overwhelming to any extent. After hearing this, the 22-year-old has made up her mind to accept proposals from Netflix in the future if she receives any.

"I spoke to some of the players and they told me it wasn't bombarding whatsoever. They were very respectful and yeah so if they ask me to do it again, I definitely won't back down," said the Canadian.

While Bianca Andreescu disliked the idea of getting herself featured in the first season of 'Break Point,' she thoroughly enjoyed watching the show.

The Canadian was drawn into the series so much that she finished watching it in basically one sitting. Andreescu was surprised to discover the backlash that the show received from the public.

"Yeah, I watched it all in basically one sitting. It was really good. I didn't really understand the backlash that it got. I thought it was incredible even though I'm on tour," she said in the podcast.

The former US Open champion liked how the show gave its audience insights on the tour. She also opened up about getting emotional after watching it.

"I think it gives great insight on what is going on, on tour. A lot of the team members also gave interviews. So, I though that was great. I mean, you can see the hardships, you can see the choice and watching it made very emotional as well cause I've been in some of those people's shoes," she expressed.
