World No. 16 Frances Tiafoe is all set to make his fifth appearance in the Laver Cup this year. He will represent Team World captained by tennis legend John McEnroe.

Tiafoe made his debut at the Laver Cup in 2019 in Prague. He famously won the shield for Team World three years later in London. He outsmarted Stefanos Tsitsipas in the singles competition and edged past Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal in the doubles card (alongside Jack Sock).

The American will enter Berlin this year after a remarkable semifinal run in the US Open. He was one of the dark horses in New York but silenced his critics by reaching the last four. After cruising past Ben Shelton, Grigor Dimitrov, and Alexei Popyrin, his run eventually ended against Taylor Fritz.

Frances Tiafoe will again be a part of the defending team this year after Team World dominated Team Europe in 2023. He defeated Hubert Hurkacz in his singles competition and also won two matches in the doubles draw.

Frances Tiafoe has had a decent season by chalking up 29 wins from 50 matches, including runner-up finishes in Houston and Cincinnati. He also reached the semifinals of the Delray Beach Open and the Citi Open in Washington.

The 26-year-old will represent Team World at the Laver Cup this year alongside Taylor Fritz, Ben Shelton, Thanasi Kokkinakis, Francesco Cerundolo, Alejandro Tabilo, and Grigor Dimitrov. He spoke about his love for team sports ahead of the event and looked forward to competing at a high level.

“Having a chance to win together at the highest level always means a lot to us; we talk about it a lot. To come together and try not to worry about yourself and play for something more than yourself is a great thing. And I love team sports, so that’s why I like to compete,” Frances Tiafoe said.

The American also mentioned how he likes to be a team player and ensure everyone has a good time together.

“I’m the biggest cheerleader when I’m out there, making sure everyone’s having a good time. I’m the glue guy,” Frances Tiafoe said.
