The final of the 2025 French Open is all set to be a blockbuster clash between the two top players of this generation, Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz. This is their third Grand Slam meeting, but their first Grand Slam final.
Sinner has been near perfect at this year's French Open, as the top-ranked Italian has yet to drop a set in Paris this year. He began with a 6-4, 6-3, 7-5 against home favorite Arthur Rindeknech and then dispatched a retiring Richard Gasquet 6-3, 6-0, 6-4 in the second round. He then steamrolled Jiri Lehecka in the third round, winning 6-0, 6-1, 6-2, and won 6-1, 6-3, 6-4 against 17th seed Andrey Rublev in the fourth round.
Sinner faced off against Alexander Bublik in the quarterfinal, who had been on a dream run at Roland Garros this year, winning against Top-10 seeds like Alex de Minaur and Jack Draper. However, Sinner was clinical, winning 6-1, 7-5, 6-0, and reached his second successive French Open semifinal. He faced off against sixth seed Novak Djokovic in the last four in a tough three-hour battle and dispatched him in straight sets, winning 6-4, 7-5, 7-6 (3) to reach his maiden French Open final.
On the other hand, Carlos Alcaraz has had the occasional slip-up in his matches so far at the French Open. The defending champion began with a routine 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 win over Italian qualifier Giulio Zeppeiri in the first round. In all his next three matches, the Spaniard dropped a set against Fabian Marozsan, Damir Dzhumur, and Ben Shelton but recovered in every instance to win in four sets.
Alcaraz's most dominant performance came in the quarterfinals, where he won 6-0, 6-1, 6-4 against 12th seed Tommy Paul. Once again in the semifinal, he started slowly, losing the first set 6-4 against Lorenzo Musetti. After winning the close set 7-5, the tide turned in favor of Alcaraz as the Italian got injured and could not play at full tilt. Alcaraz won the next eight games before Musetti called it a day and retired from the match.
The head-to-head between Sinner and Alcaraz is 7-4 in favor of the Spaniard, as he has won the last four matches against the Italian, including their most recent meeting at the final of the Italian Open last month.
