Back in April 2022, Becker was jailed for two-and-a-half years for hiding £2.5 million worth of assets and loans to avoid paying debts. However, he was released eight months later. Upon his release, while speaking to German TV in an interview, he opened up about their friendship and explained why Jurgen Klopp couldn't visit him while he was in prison in London.

Becker stated that while in prison, he was allowed two visits a month. He gave the security Klopp's name, but they declined because he was too famous, and they were concerned about his safety.

“We are good friends and I gave his name to the authorities but then they came back and said that he couldn’t come as he was too famous and they were concerned for his safety. I was allowed two visits a month and I had to give these names to the authorities so they could be checked out but it is a very slow process,” Becker said.

Since his release from prison, Becker hasn't returned to the UK. He has also occasionally worked as a pundit, including during the 2024 Australian Open, where he worked with Eurosport throughout the tournament.
