Like many, tennis legend Chris Evert was delighted by superstar singer Pink's presence at the 2023 BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells.
Pink was present during Carlos Alcaraz's thrilling semifinal match against Jannik Sinner on Saturday, in which the Spaniard defeated the Italian 7-6(4), 6-3 in straight sets to advance to his first Indian Wells final, where he will take on Daniil Medvedev.
Being a huge tennis fan herself, the American singer-songwriter thoroughly enjoyed the match. She was also observed vibing with the music being played in the stadium. She even stood up briefly as the camera turned to face her and started to move to the music, entertaining the crowd and adding a lot of glitz to the match.
In view of this, 18-time Grand Slam winner Chris Evert took to Twitter to share her delight at seeing the American having the time of her life, declaring that she should be invited to every tennis tournament in the future.
"Look at that smile; let’s invite her to every tennis tournament!" Evert wrote.
Chris Evert heaps praise on Iga Swiatek, says she is still the "player to beat"
Chris Evert stated in an interview with Eurosport that although Iga Swiatek is a great athlete, her emotional state has "broken down" in the matches she has lost this season.
"We know she has the game physically. We know she's a great competitor, and she's a great athlete. She's got wonderful tools, and a wonderful skill-set in tennis. But it seems like in the matches that she's lost, that emotional part has broken down," Evert said.
The 18-time Grand Slam winner then compared Swiatek to Novak Djokovic, noting that even though the Pole is not quite a "machine" like the Serb, she is still the player to beat and should work on controlling her emotions.
"[Novak] Djokovic is almost like a machine. He goes out there and, you know, he can just have that tunnel vision and focus and not let his emotions get in the way," Chris Evert said.
"I think Iga [Swiatek] has shown in some matches that she has let her emotions get the best of her. So she would just have to be aware of that, I think. But she is still the player to beat, no matter what you say," she added.
Swiatek's most recent performance was as the defending champion at the 2023 BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, where she was eliminated in the semifinals by reigning Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina.
