Martina Navratilova called Caitlyn Jenner out after a fan defended the former Olympic champion for opposing transgender participation in women's sports. The American legend said that Jenner had previously participated in a golf tournament in the women's category and also accepted accolades on behalf of 'actual women.'
Caitlyn was formerly known as Bruce and won a gold medal in decathlon at the 1976 Montreal Olympics. Jenner came out as a trans woman in 2015 and since then has documented her transition to her fans. She currently works as a transgender rights activist.
Recently a user on X (formerly Twitter) called Jenner out for 'influencing' kids in California to think that they were in the wrong body. However, another user defended Jenner stating that she herself was an advocate for no trans women participation in women's sports.
"Caitlyn is an adult, doesn’t go around demanding that people use pronouns and Caitlyn has been an advocate for females who oppose male participation in sports, which violates Title IX, which is a sex-based women’s civil rights law. I respect Caitlyn. I support people presenting how they want. Plus Caitlyn doesn’t deny science or impose f***ery on others."
Martina Navratilova called Caitlyn Jenner out under the above tweet for competing in a women's golf tournament and accepting awards meant to be won by 'actual women'.
Jenner had seemingly competed in the Pro-Am ANA Inspiration, a women's golf tournament back in 2016. She was also awarded Glamour Magazine's 'Women of the Year' in 2015, a decision that was met with controversy.
"While playing from the women’s tees when playing golf and accepting all the accolades and awards that should have gone to actual women…."
Navratilova hasn't shied away from voicing her opinion on sensitive topics and has shown her dismay towards the participation of trans women in women's sports. She has been called 'anti-trans' for her opinions, however, the American has maintained that she is 'pro-women'.
"I am not anti trans- I am pro women" - Martina Navratilova clarified her stand on her support towards women
Martina Navratilova also commented on an incident that occurred in the Isle of Wight, where a 53-year-old trans woman admitted to having a bladed item in public. She was found intoxicated while having her trousers dropped to her ankles.
A user on X felt that calling this 'man' a woman was an insult to womankind, a sentiment which Navratilova seconded. However, another user called out the 68-year-old for being 'anti-trans'.
The American clarified that she isn't 'anti-trans' but 'pro-women'.
"You said I was anti trans. I am not anti trans- I am pro women. Pro women sex based spaces. That is not anti anything," she responded.
She also got into a heated discussion with another user under her tweet, who called her a 'bigot' for her claims.
