Nick Kyrgios has hailed 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic after the Serb defended the Aussie's right to express his thoughts on the ongoing doping scandal. The Aussie, who has been sidelined from tennis since 2023 due to injuries, has been criticizing the duo since reports emerged that they had failed doping tests this year. This week, Kyrgios said tennis' integrity was "awful."
Meanwhile, Djokovic, who is set to launch his 2025 season at the Brisbane 250 event, was asked about his view on the Aussie's comments against Sinner and Swiatek. Notably, Djokovic will pair up with Nick, who is making a return to the sport, for the doubles.
While acknowledging that he did not find them "nice," Djokovic defended Nick's right to express himself, saying,
“We live in a world where everyone has the right to express themselves, especially on social media.”
At the same time, the Serbian legend signalled his agreement with Kyrgios. He said,
"[Nick is] right about the transparency and the inconsistency of the protocols and the comparisons between the various cases. We have seen many players in the past, and also currently, who have been suspended for not even having undergone anti-doping tests and for not having communicated their whereabouts, and some lower-ranked players who have been waiting for their cases to be resolved for more than a year."
Following this, Kyrgios reacted to Novak Djokovic's quotes on X (formerly Twitter). He wrote:
"Goat has spoken."
Jannik Sinner twice tested positive for a banned steroid in March 2023 but did not face suspension after he explained that it had entered his system by accident. Iga Swiatek, on the other hand, accepted a one-month suspension in November after testing positive for the banned substance trimetazidine.
Novak Djokovic is gearing up for his 2025 season alongside a former rival

Novak Djokovic has said he will prioritize Grand Slams after failing to win a single major in 2024 and will also look to enter more tournaments. This year, the Djokovic camp will be bolstered by the addition of former World No. 1 and three-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray.
The Briton announced his retirement from competitive tennis at the end of the Paris Olympics last year. Earlier this week, he was reportedly present in Marbella, Spain, where Novak Djokovic maintains a €10 million-worth mansion, triggering speculation that they have already paired up for the much-anticipated collaboration.
