Marta Kostyuk recently commented on the differences between playing a WTA 500 tournament and a Major. The Ukrainian cited Qinwen Zheng's Australian Open run as an example, which didn't sit well with fans.

Kostyuk, who has recently been in amazing form, made it to the final of the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix. However, her dream came to an end when she was defeated by Elena Rybakina in the final.

In her post-match press conference, Marta Kostyuk shared her views on the differences between playing a Major and a WTA 500 tournament. She said a 500 tournament could mean facing more seeded opponents as compared to a Major. She also cited Qinwen Zheng's run at the Australian Open this year, where the Chinese didn't defeat a single-seeded player.

"Tennis is different every day, every tournament. I can play a 500 play four out of five matches against top-10 players, but Qinwen this year in Australia, she made it to the final of Australia without facing top-50"

Fans didn't appreciate this comment made by Kostyuk and took to X (formerly Twitter) where they expressed their anger.

One fan said how this is a recurring trend with the Ukrainian, who had previously said that Emma Raducanu had an easier path compared to Leylah Fernandez at the 2021 US Open:

"Why is she always putting down her peers’ successes? Even if she thinks it, she doesn’t need to voice it. Same thing when she compared Emma’s US Open run to Leylah’s. Yes it’s true but they maximized their opportunities. Answer the question without putting down your peers."

Another fan thought that Marta Kostyuk was obsessed with other players since she always talked about them.

"Always speaking on other player’s achievements. Never seen a player obsessed with her peer’s results the way she is"

Here are some other fan reactions:

"She is an insufferable player. Grumbling, shouting, crying after every point, she is agonising to watch. The way she puts down her peers highlights her lack of class. Terrible sports person" a fan said.
"always belittling her colleagues, always pretending that what she does is the best. She honestly is a bore" another fan opined.
"Like Marta but she has to stop calling out her colleagues in every post-match conference - she's doing what I dream I could do with my colleagues but there's a reason that I don't!" a fan wrote.
"Oh Qinwen if only u would’ve taken one of those 5 match points now look ur name is getting dragged sister" A fan said.
"Kostyuk is just pissed she didn’t get to scam her way to a final, stay mad sore loser" Another fan said.
"see what happens when you lose while having 5 match points qinwen. u gave her free reign to talk crazy on ur name" Another fan felt

"I think 90% my tiredness played a role today" - Marta Kostyuk's tiring schedule took a toll on her during Stuttgart final

Marta Kostyuk played a match extra than her opponent in the final against Elena Rybkina as she didn't receive a bye in the opening round. She also faced Top 10 players like Marketa Vondrousova, Coco Guaff, and Qinwen Zheng.

All of these factors took a toll on her as she said in her post-match press conference that 90% of her tiredness played a role in the final.

"I think 90% my tiredness played a role today. Every morning I didn't know what to expect from myself on the court today, because really me being able to pull off this whole week and play an amazing tennis yesterday was something incredible and something I would never expect I can do," Kostyuk said.

Marta Kostyuk is slated to compete at the Madrid Open next.
