Djokovic's participation at the grasscourt Slam was in doubt after he withdrew from the French Open early in June due to a knee injury. The World No. 2 underwent surgery but recovered in time to play at Wimbledon.

He got the better of Vit Kopriva in the first round in straight sets and defeated British player Jacob Fearnley in the second round in four sets.

Against Popyrin in the third round, the Serb faced a scare after losing the first set but went on to win the next three sets to advance into his 16th fourth-round appearance at SW19.
