Serena Williams added a bit of Compton, California flavor to the Olympics after winning her first and only singles Olympic gold medal at the 2012 London Games. Williams brought out the C-Walk dance as a celebratory move, much to the excitement of many of her fans back then, including Venus Williams.

With the annual Black History Month currently being observed, tennis fans took the opportunity to look back upon the famous moment involving the American tennis legend.

The 'C' in C-Walk stands for the gang 'Crip'. The 'Crip Walk' was first performed and popularized by gang members from Compton, where Williams herself originally hails from. The dance move has been quite popular over the years, but it was Serena Williams who introduced it to the tennis world after beating great rival Maria Sharapova 6-0, 6-1 to clinch the prestigious Olympic gold.

Williams performed some impressive moves courtside, drawing huge cheers from the crowd and also a visibly thrilled Venus Williams.

The moment, which garnered a lot more attention than the match itself, was recently brought back by fans as they celebrated one of the biggest contributors to African-American history in Williams.

"Lol you can take the girl out of #Compton, but can’t take the Compton out of her," a Twitter user wrote, reacting to Serena Williams' dance.
"I know all of Serena’s career could be a highlight reel, but this moment right here got to be close to the top man," another fan expressed.

Here are a few more reactions from tennis fans to Williams' dance moves to celebrate her win in London:

Shortly after her celebratory dance moves earned praise as well as criticism at the London Games in 2012, Serena Williams said that she was quite excited to be able to pull off the dance and wanted to see if she was good at it.

While she later admitted that it was perhaps a bit inappropriate given the gang reference behind the C-Walk, she was not too bothered by the criticism at the time as she basked in the glory of her win.

"It just happened. I was so excited that it just came out,” she said, laughing. “I guess I’m good at it!" Williams said shortly after the moment.
“I don’t care. That’s the least of my worries … I’m so excited I was able to do the dance. I’m glad I did it!" she added when asked about being criticized.

Serena Williams then combined with her older sister Venus to clinch the women's doubles gold medal in London, their third and final gold medal as a pair at the Olympics. Williams is among the most successful tennis players at the Olympics, with four gold medals in all.
