Paula Badosa expressed disappointment after suffering a third-round defeat at the hands of Elena Rybakina at the 2023 Miami Open. The 25-year-old lamented the loss, pointing to how sometimes life does not go according to plan.

Badosa had a match point at 5-4 40-30 in the second set after winning the first 6-3, which her opponent saved. The Kazakh claimed the second set 7-5 and then knocked out the Spaniard 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 in three sets. The duo had also gone head-to-head at the 2023 Indian Wells Open at the same stage, where Rybakina triumphed in straight sets.

Badosa took to social media later to express her feelings about the loss, indicating she was heartbroken by simply tweeting a bandaged heart emoji.

She also posted on Instagram afterwards, uploading a meme image showing the difference between a simple initial plan versus what really happens in life.

"Gracias Vida (thanks, life)," she captioned the image, with emojis indicating her mind was blown.

The Spaniard has had a shaky start to the 2023 season after withdrawing from the Australian Open and the Abu Dhabi Open due to an abductor injury. This resulted in Badosa dropping out of the top 20 in the WTA Rankings.

Upon returning to the tour, the 25-year-old suffered two first-round losses at the Qatar Open and Dubai Tennis Championships before losing to eventual champion Rybakina at Indian Wells. As she heads into the clay season, the Spaniard will look to put her dismal hardcourt season behind her.

Paula Badosa also echoed Thanasi Kokkinakis’ sentiments, responding to his heartbroken tweet saying she felt the same after her Indian Wells loss.

The Australian suffered defeat at the hands of Hubert Hurkacz in the Round of 64 after failing to convert five match points in the longest three-setter match of the 2023 ATP season, lasting three hours and 31 minutes. The defeat brought back memories of his epic five-set defeat to Andy Murray at the Australian Open earlier this year, where Kokkinakis lost after holding multiple match points as well.

He simply retweeted his old post ruing his loss to Murray, to which Badosa replied:

“Same,” she wrote with a mind-blown emoji.

“This f***ing sport man,” read Kokkinakis' original tweet, along with a sad emoji.
