Former tennis player Noah Rubin recently recalled Swiss veteran Stan Wawrinka's prime years on tour. The American believes the 37-year-old was one of the most fierce competitors in his prime and has not been given enough credit that he deserves.

Wawrinka recently participated at the 2023 Indian Wells and defeated the likes of Miomir Kecmanovic and Holger Rune en route to the last 16. His run came to an end at the hands of Open Su de France winner Jannik Sinner, who defeated him in straight sets 6-1, 6-4.

However, the former World No. 100 has looked determined to do well this year, chalking up 9 wins from 15 matches and quarterfinal runs at the Rotterdam Open and the Marseille Open. Noah Rubin took to his social media account on Twitter to hail the Swiss legend's impact during his purple patch.

"There haven't been many scarier tennis players than a prime Stan Wawrinka. It nearly didn't matter how you played that day, it was his match. Under appreciated," Noah Rubin said.

From 2013-2017, Wawrinka reached 15 finals on the ATP tour and captured 12 titles during that run. He managed to win the 2014 Australian Open, the 2015 French Open and also the 2016 US Open Championships. The former World No. 3 also claimed titles at the Monte Carlo Masters, the Tokyo Open and the Dubai Tennis Championships during that run.

The Swiss will be eager to win his next tour-level title and has been putting in hard yards on the ATP tour. His most recent triumph came at the 2020 Prague Challenger, but he is yet to taste any success on the main tour since capturing the 2017 Geneva Open. If the 37-year-old continues to perform consistently in 2023, he should be able to achieve his target soon.

Stan Wawrinka believes he has the ability to beat any player on the ATP tour. He has defeated the likes of Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal in the past and also picked up emphatic wins over quality next gen players such as Daniil Medvedev, Frances Tiafoe and Holger Rune.

The Swiss spoke about his mindset in an interview and felt optimistic about positive results in the future.

"My game is high, when I enter the court I believe I can beat any player in front of me," Stan Wawrinka stated. Now I have to do it and I have to do it in repetition in the same week, But the year is long and I’m always looking for the full year, to the big picture, controlling what I can control and the matches and results will come," he added.
