Naomi Osaka made a cheeky request to American pop star Beyoncé during the 2024 GQ Men of the Year Party in Los Angeles. The four-time Grand Slam champion turned heads at the star-studded event with her Hollywood Western-inspired look, but it was her humorous interaction involving Beyoncé’s signature whiskey that truly stole the show.
The 2024 GQ Men Of The Year Party, hosted at Bar Marmont on November 14, embraced a Western theme that saw attendees donning their finest "Hollywood Western" attire. Honorees Dwayne Johnson, Pharrell Williams, and John Mulaney led the celebration.
Osaka rose to the occasion with a stunning western-inspired outfit by Amiri, complete with a crisp white shirt with a loose black leather necktie and studded black trousers, accessorizing with long, blond-flecked braids, a black felt hat, and suede cowboy boots.
While posing in front of a Western-themed bar, Osaka had fans laughing when she posted a TikTok video pretending to debate taking a bottle of 'SirDavis American Whisky.' The premium whiskey, created by Beyonce, caught her eye as she sat perched on a bar stool.
After a moment of playful hesitation, Osaka decided against it but later shared the moment with her followers, captioning the video:
"I was genuinely thinking about stealing the bottle. Beyonce pls send me some."
Osaka’s standout look didn’t go unnoticed. GQ’s global editorial director, Will Welch, presented her with the title of “Big Fit of the Night” and a commemorative medal. The Japanese tennis star proudly shared her fashion win with her followers on Instagram, posting a series of photos from the event, including her award-winning outfit and medal.
"yeehaw," Osaka captioned the post.
Naomi Osaka recalls how Beyoncé cheered her up following the 2019 US Open 4R loss
Naomi Osaka disclosed that she finally had the opportunity to meet American pop star Beyonce during her off-season, and their discussion offered her a fresh perspective on her achievements.
In 2019, Osaka faced a tough challenge at the New York Major, where she failed to defend her title after a 5-7, 4-6 loss to 13th seed Belinda Bencic in the Round of 16.
"I met Beyoncé and Jay Z during the off-season. She just smelled expensive and beautiful and she was soft and she hugged me. I was like, this is what heaven is," Naomi Osaka said (via WTA Insider).
"She was talking to me and she said she was proud of me. I thought, wow, that actually was a really important moment. I felt really depressed after I lost my match, but I'm thinking about the impact that tennis players - I don't think we know. I don't think we're aware of all the good that we can do," she added.
"That was kind of an eye-opening thing. Even though it was one of my worst points, to lose - I wanted to be a defending champion and I lost early - there's still something really good that came out of that," she continued.
Naomi Osaka wrapped up her 2024 season ahead of schedule due to abdominal and back injuries. These setbacks led her to withdraw from several tournaments, including the Hong Kong Tennis Open, the Kinoshita Group Japan Open, the Toray Pan Pacific Open, and the recently concluded Billie Jean King Cup.
