Martina Navratilova has taken a sharp jab at Donald Trump over his history of business failures. The former World No. 1 delivered the scathing criticism in response to the President-elect contradicting his earlier promises with his new tariff policy.

During his campaign trail, Trump reportedly emphasized his intention to make the United States a "tariff nation." However, he assured the crowd at his rally that these tariffs would be paid by China, other Asian countries, and the European Union, with no increase in taxes for the American people.

"We’re going to be a tariff nation. It’s not going to be a cost to you. It’s going to be a cost to another country. I heard Kamala the other day, comrade Kamala, she said, 'If you do that, he's raising your taxes.' No, no, no, no, no," Trump said.
"I’m not raising your taxes. I’m raising China and all of these countries in Asia and all over the world, including the European Union by the way, which is one of the most egregious. And they’re going to have to pay a price now because we’ve been supporting them for a long time and it’s no longer sustainable," he added.

Since being re-elected as president, Donald Trump has announced plans to sign an Executive Order imposing 25% tariffs on all products imported from Mexico and Canada.

"On January 20th, as one of my many first Executive Orders, I will sign all necessary documents to charge Mexico and Canada a 25% Tariff on all products coming into the United States, and its ridiculous Open Borders," Trump wrote on a post shared on the Truth site.

However, critics quickly pointed out that this move would lead to higher consumer prices and increased taxes, contrary to his earlier promises. In light of the new developments, the clip of his earlier remarks resurfaced on social media, with users mocking the President-elect's grasp of economic policies and linking it to his business failures, which include six of his hotel and casino ventures filing for bankruptcy.

As a user asked for examples of Donald Trump's successful and legal businesses, Martina Navratilova bluntly responded that none existed, labeling all his ventures a "scam."

"Lol. Zero. None. Nada. It’s all a scam and we are the suckers," she posted on X.

With the threat of increased taxes, Navratilova also ridiculed the Republican voters for re-electing Trump as president.

"See how much the maga voters will like that...," Martina Navratilova posted.

Martina Navratilova was dismayed by Donald Trump beating Kamala Harris to win the 2024 US presidential election. The 18-time Grand Slam champion referred to Trump's re-election as a victory for "fear and anger," arguing that it was a testament to America remaining a "racist patriarchy."

"Well, Trump won. Fear and anger won. And a country that was born as a racist patriarchy proved beyond any reasonable doubt it still is a racist patriarchy. Not sure when this ceases to be true," Martina Navratilova wrote.

Since then, the Czech-American has been vocal about her disapproval of Trump's picks for his cabinet and important government positions, lashing out at the President-elect for choosing Tulsi Gabbard as the Director of National Intelligence and for nominating Matt Gaetz as the Attorney General.

Martina Navratilova recently also emphasized that she could "never" vote for Republican candidates, describing them as "sycophants and toxic men" following Donald Trump's nomination of Robert Kennedy Jr. for the position of health secretary.
