Several fans voiced objections over Wimbledon's remark about Carlos Alcaraz before his French Open semifinal against Jannik Sinner earlier this year. The remark, a caption on a clip praising Sinner over Alcaraz, resurfaced after the Spaniard's Wimbledon 2024 triumph.

Alcaraz is enjoying a great run of form this season, winning both the French Open and the Wimbledon Championships, becoming the youngest player to achieve this feat in the same calendar year. He defeated Alexander Zverev in the French Open final and then defended his Wimbledon title by triumphing over Novak Djokovic.

Notably, Alcaraz defeated Sinner in the semifinals of the claycourt slam in a grueling five-setter. Before their French Open clash in June, the official X handle of Wimbledon shared several clips from their encounter at the London Major in 2022. One of those showed a rally where Sinner's quick shot left the Spaniard unable to respond, winning the point.

However, the clip's caption was something that several fans disapproved of:

"Anything Carlos can do, Jannik can do better," it read.

One fan expressed disapproval and questioned Jannik Sinner's performance history at Wimbledon. They wrote:

"What has sinner done at Wimbledon?"

"What about winning wimbledon back to back," another said.
""The racket will talk" said by the greatest champion Muguruza," yet another chimed in.

A fan pointed out that while Jannik Sinner couldn't defeat Daniil Medvedev in the quarterfinals of the London Major, Alcaraz defeated the Russian in the semifinals.

"Anything Jannik can do, Carlos can do better," they commented.

Here are a few more reactions from the tennis fans:

The 21-year-old was happy to have the Italian alongside him at the top of the ATP rankings, appreciating his competitive dynamics with Sinner. Alcaraz said (via Punto de Break):

“Being there with Jannik at 22 and 21 at the top of the rankings and winning Grand Slams is good for tennis to have new faces winning big things and competing in major tournaments. I am very happy to have him there. We have a great rivalry as young players emerging in the fight for these things. It's great for the sport, for tennis, and for the players as well.”

Alcaraz had previously stated that he wanted to establish an intense rivalry with Sinner akin to Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. The four-time Major champion holds a slight edge in the head-to-head against Sinner, leading 5-4 after their latest encounter at Roland Garros earlier this year.
