Anastasia Potapova's shocking victory over World No. 6 Coco Gauff at the 2023 Miami Open caught the eye of Eugenie Bouchard, who was impressed by the high level of play on display during the match.

Following an easy straight-sets win against Rebecca Marino, Coco Gauff took on Anastasia Potapova in the the third round in Miami. Potapova initially raced away to a 5-2 lead in the first set; however, Gauff staged a late comeback to force the set into a tiebreak, which the American won.

The Russian was only one game away from defeat in the second set as she trailed 5-3 before holding her nerve to win 10 of the remaining 12 games to win the match 6-7(8), 7-5, 6-2.

The thrill of the encounter was not lost on Eugenie Bouchard as she shared an image of herself watching Potapova serve out her win and commented on the exceptional quality of the encounter between the pair.

"What a match from earlier!," Bouchard wrote on Instagram.

Anastasia Potapova registered her third win against a top 10 opponent with her victory over Coco Gauff at the 2023 Miami Open. Her previous victory against a top 10 opponent came at the Prague Open last year when she defeated the then World No. 2 Anett Kontaveit in the quarterfinals.

Potapova was very complimentary while speaking of Coco Gauff, highlighting her athleticism in particular. She expressed her surprise at being able to maintain her level of play throughout the match and credited her fitness coach for helping her stay competitive.

"In those tough conditions, it's not easy to play ... Coco is an unbelievable athlete and she has very good fitness. I'm really surprised that I could stay at the same level until the end.. Thanks to my fitness coach!" Potapova said in her post-match interview

The Russian also credited her mentality and focus for getting her past the finish line against Gauff.

"I think I just let it go, and I started to focus on my tennis and going for my shots and not thinking what she is going to do. I'm really happy to be in the fourth round for the first time; it's a dream that really came true," she added.

Anastasia Potapova will next take on Qinwen Zheng in the fourth round of the 2023 Miami Open.
