World No. 1 Jannik Sinner will be contesting in his fourth Major final when he takes on Carlos Alcaraz at the French Open summit clash on Sunday (June 8). The Italian is currently being coached by the duo of Simone Vagnozzi and Darren Cahill.
After working with Riccardo Piatti in his initial days, which saw Sinner win five titles from six finals on the Tour, the Italian changed the structure of his support team by hiring Vagnozzi and Cahill in 2022. The result was not instant, as he only reached one final in 2022, winning the title in Umag with a win over Alcaraz in the final. However, he did reach the quarterfinals in three of the four Majors that year.
2023 was when the changes in his coaching team started to influence Sinner's on-court results. The Italian reached seven finals in 2023, winning a Masters 1000 title in Toronto. He also got his first victory against Novak Djokovic in four attempts at the group stage of the ATP Finals that year but lost against the Serb in the final.
The strong end to 2023 was a springboard for Sinner in 2024, as he had one of the best seasons in ATP history. He won 73 of the 79 matches he played in the year, winning both the hard-court Majors in Melbourne and New York and Masters 1000 titles in Miami, Cincinnati, and Shanghai, and he even won the year-ending ATP finals.
The duo of Vagnozzi and Cahill was awarded the ATP's "Coach of the Year" award jointly. Both of them played a crucial role in supporting Sinner throughout the doping controversy that the Italian faced for the better part of 2024 and 2025.
The coaching duo has added another feather to their cap, as Sinner successfully defended his title in Melbourne earlier this year. Although, as per reports, the dream team is about to break up, as 2025 will be the last year for Darren Cahill as the Italian's coach.
Jannik Sinner is on an unbeaten streak at the Grand Slam

The last time Jannik Sinner lost a Grand Slam match was at Wimbledon last year, when he lost against Daniil Medvedev in the quarterfinals in a tough five-set battle. Since then, the Italian has been unbeaten for 20 matches at the Grand Slam level, winning the US Open last year and the Australian Open this year.
What has been most impressive has been Sinner's dominance in these 20 matches. He has never been taken to five sets in these matches and has only dropped sets in four of them. He lost sets against Mackenzie McDonald and Daniil Medvedev at last year's US Open and against Tristan Schoolkate and Holger Rune in Melbourne this year. He has yet to drop a set at this year's French Open.
However, Alcaraz is the one player against whom Sinner has come up short in recent times. Even last year, when he only lost six matches in the whole year, three of them were against the Spaniard, including the French Open semifinal. He has lost his last four matches against Alcaraz and would need to dig deep to reverse the trend at the final in Paris on Sunday.
