The title in Paris was the fourth of what is turning into yet another impressive season for the youngster. Davidovich Fokina, meanwhile, is looking to steady the ship after a few early exits at the back end of the clay season. Given the gulf in level of the world rankings and their past head-to-head, Carlos Alcaraz will come into this contest as the favorite on paper. He will, however, need to be wary of the dogged Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.
The former junior Wimbledon champion plays a crafty brand of tennis, mixing up the spin on the shots and using drop-lob combos and even throwing in the occasional underarm serve to try and throw his opponents off rhythm.
That said, Alcaraz has been in top form coming into the grass swing. He has won 22 of his last 23 matches and possesses enough variety in his own game to keep his opponents on their toes.
Off the ground, Alcaraz is the bigger hitter and will look to dictate play. First matches on a new surface are never easy, but if the top seed can play with some restraint and remain patient in the longer rallies, he should be able to outsmart his opponent.
