About
The Monte-Carlo Masters is a clay-court event that usually takes place in April every year. While King of Clay Rafael Nadal will not compete, many top players such as Novak Djokovic, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Andrey Rublev, Casper Ruud and Daniil Medvedev will participate.
Tsitsipas is the two-time defending champion at the men’s singles event. He clinched the title last year by defeating Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 6–3, 7–6(3) in the final. Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury won the men's doubles title by beating Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah in the final.
History
Monte-Carlo Masters is one of the oldest tournaments in tennis history, with its first edition taking place all the way back in 1897. Reginald Doherty won the title by defeating Conway Blackwood Price in the final.
The first winner of the tournament in the Open Era was Tom Okker who defeated John Newcombe 8–10, 6–1, 7–5, 6–3 in the final. Rafael Nadal has been the most successful player in Monte-Carlo, with 11 titles to his name
