Zheng Qinwen vs Amanda Anisimova preview

Top seed Zheng Qinwen will take on Amanda Anisimova in the semifinals of the HSBC Championships 2025.
Following a first-round bye, Zheng beat McCartney Kessler 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 in the second round. She was up against former US Open champion Emma Raducanu in the quarterfinals. The top seed was all over her opponent right from the start and made her breakthrough halfway through the first set, reeling off four consecutive games to take it.
Raducanu shrugged off the disappointment, racing to a 3-0 lead to start the second set. However, she couldn't sustain this level. Zheng swept six of the next seven games to win the match 6-2, 6-4.
Anisimova fought from a set down to beat Jodie Burrage 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in her opener here. She ousted Sonay Kartal with a 6-1, 6-3 win in the next round. She was up against third seed Emma Navarro for a spot in the last four.
The two were evenly matched in the first set until Anisimova pulled ahead towards the end. She nabbed four games on the run to seal the set in her favor. While she initially conceded her break advantage in the second set, she also secured another break of serve instantly. She held onto the lead this time to register a 6-3, 6-3 win.

Zheng Qinwen vs Amanda Anisimova prediction

Both players have advanced to their first career semifinal on grass. Following tough openers at Queen's Club, both looked quite at ease in subsequent rounds. Their previous two matches unfolded in similar fashion. Anisimova captured the first set only for Zheng to stage a comeback on both occasions.
However, those two matches were on hardcourts. Anisimova is likely to have the upper hand now that they're competing on grass. Even though this is her first semifinal on the surface, she has a 14-8 career record on it, including a quarterfinal appearance at Wimbledon.
Zheng, on the other hand, improved her career record on grass to 5-8 with her latest win. Before this tournament, she had lost six of her last seven matches on grass. She's playing with more freedom on the surface this time. She will attempt to win three matches in a row on grass for the first time.
While they are equally capable of slugging it out from the baseline, Anisimova has more potential to overpower Zheng. Her serve when clicking is also more potent. Furthermore, given their respective results on grass so far, the American will be favored to win this showdown.
Pick: Amanda Anisimova to win in straight sets.
