Rotterdam 2023 Day 3: Men's singles predictions ft. Alex de Minaur vs Andrey Rublev, Alexander Zverev vs Tallon Griekspoor

The third day of main draw action at the 2023 ABN AMRO Open in Rotterdam on Wednesday (15 February) will feature five first-round and three second-round matches.

Four seeded players, two wildcards, one lucky loser, and a qualifier will open their campaign at the ATP 500 tournament for a place in the second round. On that note, here's a look at the predictions for all eight matches:

#1 Round of 32: Benzamin Bonzi vs Jannik Sinner

World No. 48 Benzamin Bonzi will open his Rotterdam campaign against the 14th-ranked Jannik Sinner.

The Maharashtra Open finalist is 6-5 on the season, while Sinner (8-2) is coming off a title run in Montpellier. The in-form Italian has won the pair's two previous meetings and should prevail again.

#2 Round of 32: Holger Rune vs Constant Lestienne

Fourth seed Holger Rune will open his campaign against World No. 54 Constant Lestienne.

The ninth-ranked Danish teenager (7-3) is coming off a semifinal in Montpellier, while Lestienne is 4-3 in 2023. It will be the pair's first meeting, but Rune should take this one.

#3 Round of 32: Botic van de Zandschulp vs Quentin Halys

World No. 35 Botic van de Zandschulp will open his Rotterdam campaign against the 62nd-ranked lucky loser Quentin Halys.

Zandschulp (3-2) is coming off a second-round showing at the Australian Open, while Halys (5-4) made the Montpellier quarterfinals last week. In the pair's first meeting, the Frenchman should prevail.

#4 Round of 32: Alex de Minaur vs Andrey Rublev (2021 Rotterdam winner)

The 25th-ranked Alex de Minaur will take on second seed Andrey Rublev in his Rotterdam opener.

De Minaur (4-2) made the Australian Open fourth round last week, while the fifth-ranked Rublev reached the last eight. De Minaur has won two of their last three meetings, but the Russian should take this one.

Prediction: Rublev in three sets

#5 Round of 16: Tallon Griekspoor vs Alexander Zverev

Wildcard Tallon Griekspoor will take on eighth seed Alexander Zverev for a place in the second round.

The 61st-ranked Griekspoor (8-1) won the Maharashtra Open title this year, while World No. 17 Zverev (3-4) is coming off a Davis Cup loss. The German took their lone meeting at Wimbledon 2021 and should prevail again.

#6 Round of 32: Tim van Rijthoven vs Maxime Cressy

Wildcard Tim van Rijthoven will open his Rotterdam campaign against World No. 40 Maxime Cressy.

The 110th-ranked Dutchman (2-1) is coming off a Davis Cup win, while Cressy made the Montpellier final last week. The pair hasn't clashed before, but the American should take this one.

Prediction: Cressy in three sets

#7 Round of 16: Stan Wawrinka vs Richard Gasquet

World No. 114 Stan Wawrinka will take on fellow veteran Richard Gasquet in a battle of the single-handers.

The 2015 winner (3-3) is coming off a Davis Cup win, while the 45th-ranked Frenchman (5-3) snapped a two-match losing streak this week. Gasquet leads 3-1 in their H2H, but expect the Swiss man to prevail.

Prediction: Wawrinka in straight sets

#8 Hubert Hurkacz vs Grigor Dimitrov

Fifth seed Hubert Hurkacz will take on Grigor Dimitrov in his Rotterdam opener. The 10th-ranked Hurkacz (6-3) made the Australian Open fourth round last month, while Dimitrov (4-2) made the third round.

Dimitrov has taken their two previous meetings, but expect Hurkacz to take this one.
