Amanda Anisimova shuts down troll after "overweight" remark
Amanda Anisimova delivered a strong response to an online troll who made inappropriate comments about her body during her successful National Bank Open run in Toronto.
Following her 6-4, 6-2 victory over World No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka in the quarterfinals, Anisimova revealed her aspirations of becoming World No. 1 and winning a Grand Slam. However, upon sharing her ambitions, she faced cyberbullying, including a peculiar body-related comment.
"Why? She wants to be world Nr. 1 player and win a GS. Being overweight as a professional athlete doesn’t really help her reach her goals," a critic wrote on X.
The American tennis player retorted sharply against the body-shaming attack and expressed her objection to such unwarranted remarks.
"Don’t you have anything better to do than comment on a 22-year-old’s body? Like do you have a job or friends? Damn dude trust me, I’m okay and I don’t think anyone here is asking for your advice lolz," she said.
"lol literally he lost his hair worrying about people he doesn’t know," the American tennis star added in another tweet.
Amanda Anisimova went on to reach her fourth WTA final in Toronto, eventually losing to compatriot and third seed Jessica Pegula 6-3, 2-6, 6-1.
Tennis legend Serena Williams' husband Alexis Ohanian lauds Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman's 'Deadpool & Wolverine' movie
Serena Williams' husband Alexis Ohanian expressed his admiration for the blockbuster film ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’, starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. The Reddit co-founder commended the performances of the lead actors and the direction by Shawn Levy, noting that the movie surpassed his expectations.
"Finally saw #DeadpoolAndWolverine this weekend and it was everything I hoped it'd would be be and MORE. Great work, @VancityReynolds Hugh Jackman + @ShawnLevyDirect — thank you!" Ohanian said.
Ohanian also mentioned that the former American tennis star chose not to join him in the movie because it was too violent for her taste.
"I had to go and see it (too violent for the Mrs.) by myself because I was tired of being so nervous online. That one epic cameo was the only one I knew about going in," he added.
Denis Shapovalov throws shade at Noah Lyles in celebration of Canada’s 4x100m relay gold at Paris Olympics
Denis Shapovalov took a subtle jab at American track and field star Noah Lyles while celebrating Canada’s gold medal victory in the men's 4x100m relay at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Lyles had stirred controversy at the World Athletics Relay in the Bahamas in May by dismissing Canada as a serious contender for the Summer Games.
“Who? Who?" Lyles was quoted as saying in response to a reporter who questioned him wether he saw the Canadian relay team as a threat.
However, the Canadian team, consisting of Andre De Grasse, Brendon Rodney, Jerome Blake, and Aaron Brown, had the last laugh, winning the final with a time of 37.5 seconds.
Lyles, sidelined by COVID-19, didn’t compete, and the U.S. team was disqualified for an illegal exchange. The American however, won gold and bronze medals in men's 100m and 200m, respectively.
Shapovalov celebrated Canada’s triumph on social media, taking the opportunity to subtly poke fun at Lyles for his earlier comments.
"Canada who???" Shapovalov exclaimed on his Instagram.
Danielle Collins reveals the impact of heatstroke in Paris following multiple tournament withdrawals ahead of US Open
Danielle Collins disclosed that her injury scare at the Paris Olympics influenced her decision to withdraw from the Toronto and Cincinnati tournaments leading up to the 2024 US Open.
During the Paris event, Collins had to retire in the quarterfinals during the third set against eventual bronze medalist Iga Swiatek due to an abdominal injury, which she suggested was linked to heatstroke from an earlier match.
"Little update for all who have been reaching out and checking in on me since my injury at the Olympics. After having a heat stroke in Paris, I strained my rectus abdominis," she revealed on Instagram.
Following these events, Collins withdrew from the warm-up tournaments ahead of the US Open. The American tennis star compared her current situation to a similar injury from four years ago and emphasized the need for caution, especially since 2024 is her last season on tour.
"I had a similar injury to this area almost four years ago that kept me from competing for over four months. Obviously I don’t want to have a repeat of that. As I am approaching the end of my career, it has been important to try and rest and recover so that this can heal as quickly as possible," she noted.
Looking ahead, Danielle Collins expressed her intention to return to competition at the WTA 500 tournament in Monterrey, scheduled for the week before the New York Major.
