FeDal's twilight: Reasons why retirement of these two will bring down tennis viewership

Laver Cup - Day Three

2) Novak Djokovic is not the hero who draws admiration

Day Twelve: The Championships - Wimbledon 2018
Day Twelve: The Championships - Wimbledon 2018

Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal are two gentlemen and that's probably an understatement. Through the highest altitudes of their journey, both the players have set a huge standard for sportsmanship and no matter where they go, they always command and draw respect from the people which include top athletes of the sporting world.

Their behaviour on the court is impeccable and they do not react strongly to discomfort whereas the same cannot be said for Novak Djokovic. There's no doubt that 'Djoker' treats his opponents with courtesy time and again but his on-court reactions are simply outrageous at times. The way he reacts after losing a crucial point, the way he shouts at himself or his team after a disappointment, the way he smirks and carries himself about does not garner any respect but instead for the audience watching him at that time, it only creates contempt.

On his day, Djokovic is simply glorious to watch but once the heroes of tennis retire, not many will be willing to watch the Serb's dominance and not many will even consider him to be a hero. There's always hatred that one gathers in success and due to his own antics, Djokovic has certainly created hatred in abundance for himself. People will prefer to not watch all of this.
