Day 2 of US Open 2024 will see the remainder of the first round take place. Top seeds Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek will be in action, facing Mackenzie McDonald and Kamilla Rakhimova, respectively.

French Open and Wimbledon runner-up Jasmine Paolini will take on 2019 champion Bianca Andreescu in the first round of the US Open. The two have already locked horns twice previously, with the Italian winning both encounters.

While there is a significant ranking difference between the two, Andreescu did put up a tough fight against the World No. 5 when they met at the French Open, winning a set. The Canadian also took her to a tiebreak in their WImbledon clash.

Paolini will enter the US Open at the back of a third-round exit at Cincinnati, where Andreescu was out in the first round. The Italian has produced some impressive performances so far in 2024 and will be expected to put up a show at the US Open. However, Andreescu on her day, is capable of giving the Italian a run for her money. Hence, there is a good chance of us witnessing a thrilling encounter at Flushing Meadows.

#2 Emma Raducanu vs Sofia Kenin

2021 champion Emma Raducanu will face 2020 Australian Open Sofia Kenin in the first round of the US Open. It will be the very first encounter between the two.

Raducanu has produced some promising performances so far this season, having reached the quarterfinals of the Citi Open and the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix while also making it to the fourth round at Wimbledon. Kenin, on the other hand, hasn't fared too well in singles, with a third-round appearance at the Italian Open being her best outing.

While Raducanu will be the heavy favorite entering the match, Kenin should not be written off as she could have the crowd on her side and can make things difficult for the British if she is at her best.

#1 Naomi Osaka vs Jelena Ostapenko

Two-time champion Naomi Osaka will face tenth seed Jelena Ostapenko in the first round of the US Open. It will be the second encounter between the two, with the Japanese winning their previous meeting 6-4, 7-5 in the first round of the 2016 French Open.

Osaka has had some decent performances in 2024, including reaching the quarterfinals of the Qatar Open and the Libema Open in 's-Hertogenbosch. The Japanese has won five out of nine main-draw matches in the US so far this year.

Ostapenko's form has been relatively impressive to Osaka's so far this season, having won two WTA 500 titles while reaching the quarterfinals of Wimbledon.
