The action on-court is a treat to the eyes, but away from the audience’s eyes, the courts are a romantic paradise for some of these tennis professionals. While some of the top players today are happily dating the girl-next-door from their town, many others like to make their love chemistry sizzle with fellow professional players. Here are some top tennis couples – present and past.

Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf

Undoubtedly, the number one couple in tennis. Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf began dating in 1999. The couple developed interest in each other at the winners’ ball after their improbable victories at the 1999 French Open. The funky Agassi married the German tennis player on October 22, 2001. They have two children Jaden Gil and Jaz Elle, 30 Grand Slams tournament titles between them and two Olympic Gold medals as their prized possession.

Roger Federer and Mirka Vavrinec

The couple met at the 2000 Olympics in Athens and since then, they have been together. Roger and Mirka tied the knot on April 11, 2009. Mirka Vavrinec, better known as Mirka Federer today, retired from professional tennis in 2002 due to a chronic foot injury. After her retirement, Mirka became her husband’s manager. She is always with Roger as she travels with him to every tournament. The couple was blessed with twin girls on July 23, 2009. Roger proudly declares his love for Mirka and singles her out as the reason behind his resilience and motivation to push on in his tennis career.

Shan Jiang and Li Na

A former professional tennis player, Shan Jiang also coached his wife Li Na. While most tennis romances get over due to distance and time constraints, these two seems to pull it off perfectly. The Chinese couple got married on January 26, 2006. Recently, Li Na dumped her husband as coach and hired Carlos Rodriguez as his replacement. The couple survived this incident and Li Na still credits her husband and ex-coach Shan Jiang for her success on the WTA circuit.

Jimmy Connors and Chris Evert

Their romance caught the media attention in 1970s, particularly when they both won the Wimbledon singles titles in 1974. Connors and Evert also played mixed doubles occasionally. Evert was 19 years old when they got engaged but the relationship didn’t last as it was hit by rough waves.

Recently, Jimmy Connors and ex-beau Chris Evert have been in the news due to Connors autobiography The Outsider, which reveals the secret that ended their whirlwind romance. Connors says his ex-fiancée had an abortion without his consent, which led to their break-up.

Nicole Vaidisova and Radek Stepanek

This Czech couple started dating in December 2007 after Radek broke up with five-time Grand Slam champion Martina Hingis.

At that time, Vaidisova was just 18. Their relationship was questioned many times by sceptics due to their age difference and Radek’s reputation of being a playboy.

The couple got married in 2010 but according to the grapevine, the couple are seeing tough times. The couple are reportedly seeking a divorce to bring an end to their three-year matrimony.
